ABOUT THESE POLICIES, GUIDELINES, AND PROCEDURES: These guidelines, policies, and procedures are not expected to provide for every situation that may arise. Much must be left to the conscientious discharge of duty, loyalty and integrity of the employees of this department, as well as their intelligence and discretion. According to the degree in which individuals show themselves to be in possession of these qualities, their zeal, activity and good judgment will be their claim to future progress in the department. In matters relating to the general conduct not within the scope of the department's policies, employees should act according to the best instincts of law-abiding, self-respecting citizens, always regarding to the good name of the service with which they are connected and upholding the reputation of which each should feel himself or herself an important part. All guidelines, policies, and procedures, can not be made in advance that will cover ever situation, and changing times; therefore, general and specific guidelines, and policies will be issued as necessary from time to time that will properly govern this department. Every employee of the Decatur Township Fire Department will familiarize themselves with the standard operating guidelines and policies that will enable them to carry out their duties as employees of the Decatur Township Fire Department to the best of their abilities. These guidelines, and policies are not intended, nor designed to limit any officer or member in exercising good judgment or personal initiative of acting in extraordinary situations. Decatur Township Fire Department guidelines, polices, and procedures are the basic guidelines to be followed in the its daily operations, and activities. They are meant to be followed, not disregarded. If they are not followed, we cannot effectively meet our goals and objectives. To engage in any practice in violation of any of the established guidelines, policies, or procedures is prohibited. Even though an employee may not agree with the policy concerning a particular matter, he is not to disregard it. On the contrary, he is expected to lend it his positive support. If he feels that a guideline, policy, or procedure should be changed or eliminated, he is encouraged to submit recommendations to that effect. But until it is changed or eliminated, he is expected to do his duty in seeing to it that it is followed. If a guideline, policy, or procedure is to be changed, it will become effective on the date shown on the revised guideline, policy, or procedure. Each firefighter will receive a copy. The changes or additions will be inserted into the manual and the original page or pages will be removed. The words "he, him, his and men" when used in this publication represent both the masculine and feminine genders unless otherwise stated. All interpretations will be made by the Chief, and are final. This manual will remain the property of the Decatur Township Fire Department (DTFD). It is the responsibility of each firefighter to keep their copy of the manual up to date and to insert the appropriate changes when necessary. The up to date manual will be presented for inspection at the request of the Chief or his designee. Upon termination of employment, from the Department, each firefighter/EMT will return the manual to the Department. |
